Structured Investments have been part of diversified portfolios in Europe & Asia for many years. While the basic concept for these products originated in the United States in the 1980s, structured investments compete with a formidable range of alternative investment vehicles, such as individual securities, mutual funds and closed-end funds. Structured investments provide investors with growth or income solutions, linked to stock markets or other asset classes, with pre-defined levels of risk, return and time. Structured investments provide investors with innovative solutions that exploit stock markets, but with certainty, in the form of reduced risk or even 100% capital protection or guarantees, and known potential returns, before they invest. They can deliver a known return profile, e.g. 150% of the return on the FTSE 100, you can therefore calculate exactly what to expect when the investment matures, and are not subject to the vagaries of a fund manager’s over or underperformance. However, not all plans are the same and there are a multitude of providers offering differing propositions. |
